Descripción: AYÁ is a music and arts festival held in Jericoacoara, Brazil, centered around New Year’s celebrations and inspired by community-driven, immersive cultural experiences. Alejandro Glatt was invited as the featured artist for the 2023 and 2025 editions, where he created a monumental Papaya Totem and large-scale Papaya Portal sculptures integrated into the natural landscape. Conceived as a symbolic altar, the papaya was used to honor the transition into the New Year and to acknowledge Brazil’s cultural traditions, spiritual syncretism, and communal ritual practices. Installed around a palm tree and activated through light, scale, and gathering, the work functioned as a ceremonial landmark within the festival, merging Mexican visual identity with the Brazilian coastal environment and reinforcing the papaya as a portal of connection, renewal, and shared celebration.
