Project Type: Multilayered Art Installations
Date: 2022 & 2025
Location: Black Rock City, 9:30 & Esplanade (2025)
Details: Alejandro Glatt has been invited to present large-scale installations at Burning Man on two occasions, each time reimagining the papaya as a portal for collective connection and sensory exploration.
2022 – Burning Man Papayas (Havana Nights Camp): Glatt’s first intervention in the desert was a monumental papaya-shaped sculpture, brought to life through video mapping using three projectors. The installation offered a meditative and visually captivating experience, merging organic form and digital projection to highlight the fruit’s symbolic role as a vessel for introspection, transformation, and cultural memory.
2025 – Papaya Portals (Bloom Camp, 9:30 & Esplanade): In 2025, Glatt returned with Papaya Portals, an immersive LED installation that transformed an 8-meter papaya structure into a vibrant, multi-sensory environment. Incorporating synchronized light systems, layered soundscapes, and ritual elements, the piece functioned as a spiritual gateway — inviting participants to step into a space of reflection, celebration, and shared frequency. Both works represent key milestones in Glatt’s evolving exploration of fruit, technology, and community as agents of artistic transformation — turning the papaya into a recurring icon of cosmic identity and human connection.
